Samsung and RoadShow complete world's largest Multi-Media On Board project
18 April 2001

Hong Kong, April 18, 2001¡K Samsung Electronics, a world leader in the electronics industry, and RoadShow Holdings Limited, a leading out-of-home media sales company have announced the successful completion of their Multi-Media On Board (MMOB) proje
ct to equip 2,000 Kowloon Motor Bus and Citybus vehicles with 8,000 high-quality TFT-LCD monitors. This innovative scheme is the world's largest.

This development is made possible jointly by Samsung Electronic's provision of LCD monitors, and RoadShow, the only MMOB provider in Hong Kong. The MMOB system consists of LCD monitors supplied by Samsung Electronics and video compact disc players, both mounted inside transit vehicles, transmitting tailor-made programmes to passengers, consisting of information, entertainment, educational programmes, community service and advertisements.

Phase one of this project includes four Samsung's LCD monitors - two 17-inch screens on the upper deck and two 15-inch screens on the lower deck - in one double-decker bus. As of now, 2,000 buses have been equipped with this pioneering MMOB technology, comprising 1,500 buses from KMB and 500 from Citybus.

Eric Yeung, KMB's Multi-Media Business Advisor, said: "This exciting new project demonstrates RoadShow's total commitment to provide value-added services to the Hong Kong public. By partnering with Samsung's cutting edge technology, we are displaying a dedication to utilising only the highest quality of technology."

Samsung's TFT-LCD has ranked number one in the global market for four consecutive years, with over 20 per cent market share. In 2000, the company widened the gap between it and the second rank company with production over six million sets and sales turnover over US$ 3 billion. Samsung's lead in the LCD market will continue as the company focuses its efforts in building additional production lines. The company's role in RoadShow's MMOB project is a key example of its corporate vision of digital convergence.

K.H. Han, Managing Director of Samsung Electronics Hong Kong said: "This project is an ideal way for revolutionary technology to reach the public. By equipping Hong Kong buses with our cutting-edge LCD monitors, Samsung and RoadShow ensure that everyone is invited, making this a truly inclusive experience."
